Third Eye

Here is a question that I’m asked over and over, in slightly different forms. This week it reached my inbox from Canada, with its own “tweak”. Of course there’s a long answer and a short answer. I’m printing a good, short answer below. Not so short actually! The piece below is pretty comprehensive; it covers all the basics. But, of course, it is only information – however excellent. Information without “the work” is largely academic. It’s useful, important (sometimes) but not the key to application. Doing “the work” is different, very different.

We’ll be on retreat, doing the work in Northern France June 25th-28th 2010 (contact Hilary@MichalLevin.com), and in Northern California September 16th-19th 2010 (contact Felicity@MichalLevin.com). If you are interested, it would be great to work with you.

And I’m talking to good people in Australia, Winnipeg, Vancouver, South Africa, and Hawaii all of whom are keen for retreats. So if you’d like to organize a retreat, or join others organizing one, please let me know. Michal@MichalLevin.com.

Looking forward to working- and playing- together!

Mediums, Healers and clairvoyants:

Q: “As a healer in training, I understand that mediumship is a part of this ability. While my intent first and foremost is to become a healer, I am curious, are all mediums healers and vice versa? If not why?”

A: This question is not quick and easy to reply to! To answer properly I have to explain what constitutes a healer, how healers are trained, and what mediums do and how they are trained too. So- I’d better begin.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to meet many different healers. Some of them have been trained in a variety of different schools or traditions, from medical practitioners, to energy healers of different disciplines, to traditional healers in indigenous cultures. Yet others, a few, are self taught. And then there are those who would never call themselves healers but who are exactly that – the aunt who always had the right word, the gardener who seemed so peaceful to be with, the receptionist in the doctor’s office who “only” organized appointments, but actually, by her presence did a great deal more. Clearly there is a wide variation in what constitutes a healer, and how that person is trained, or not. However, my guess is that you are training in some energetic, perhaps “hands on”, and school of healing. I’m going to answer the question with that in mind.
Hands on healers, like all other healers, have different stories about what they think they are doing. For example some hands on healers believe that they act as vessels for energy from god to pass through to their clients or patients. Others believe that they are masters of universal formulas on the handling of energy. In fact there are diverse beliefs about how a healer can or should manipulate energy, both to help the client’s healing, and for the safety of themselves and the client or patient.
Then, most schools believe that the personal qualities of the healer play a part in the success of their work. Some think they are inherited or innate, others that they can be cultivated, or a mixture of the two. Then, there are different ideas on how to cultivate them, or train healers. Giving up ego, whatever that means, or more precisely, means to the teacher who is using the expression, is often considered a requisite. Another frequent suggestion for training healers is that a certain amount of time be spent in meditation -of whatever sort is preferred by the trainer. Clearly there are numerous different ways suggested to prepare the individual for healing work!
Personally, I believe that individual psycho spiritual development is crucial for training healers, and indeed for anyone serious about developing their consciousness and/or doing energy or client or creative work- that’s just about everyone! For the last 14 years teaching, and learning, psycho spiritual and energetic development has been my passion. The basis of the system which I teach was given to me in a series of channeled sessions many years ago, even though then, as now, I am not especially keen on so called channeling (that’s another story). It is a well structured set of teachings that add up to an extraordinary system for developing the understanding and energy that is essential for evolving consciousness and raising the vibration.
Developing energy, involves supporting and clearing the chakra system. And all that works to produce a fully supported well functioning heart, (as well as other benefits). Of course good healers work from their hearts; but their hearts need to be fully supported. A fully supported heart is an open heart chakra, with equally well functioning charkas below it – which is a wonderful state to achieve. And the process of achieving this state of energetic development goes hand in hand with personal development.
Then, whether or not they engage with psycho spiritual development, in most healing schools, the underlying belief is that the healer either puts energy into the patient, removes energy/toxins from the patient, or moves the patient’s energy in some way, or all of those, or a combination. They also understand that this is an interaction with the energy body- the energy immediately around and in the physical body – though it may go beyond that into the causal realm, which is often thought of as existing beyond the individual energy body.
A medium is different. Mediums have access directly into the causal realm from which they either bring back what might be called energetic impressions, which then need to be converted into information; or sometimes they allow in energies or presences of those who have deceased .(Or perhaps, sometimes, the one can be thought of as the other?)
One way of describing this is to say that mediums go beyond the energy body into the causal. The causal is the universal realm that all human energy links into. Literally its called Causal because it is this is the realm from which causes emanate. And energy moves from the causal into the energy body and finally the physical body. Mediums are channels who connect directly with the causal. Of course good mediums work with their hearts engaged and fully supported, like healers –and as we all aspire to do. Sadly, some mediums sometimes work from the Third Eye alone. (See my book “Meditation: Path to the Deepest Self “for more information on how the Third Eye functions.)
Clairvoyants and intuitives are different again! An intuitive reads the energy body, which holds the individual’s history. A clairvoyant goes into the causal realm for information. Of course the distinctions are not rigid. I work as an intuitive, helping individuals to develop in the process of psycho spiritual and energetic growth. I aim to help my clients grow to become their best, fullest most complete selves: to heal their wounds, become empowered, integrated, and more. I never like to work as a clairvoyant looking into the future, though sometimes information just pops out before I can hold it back. Occasionally I work as a medium, again when a client really wants to contact a deceased person (or sometimes a deceased person simply appears).
In all cases, with healers, mediums, intuitives, and clairvoyants, the development of the individual will have a significant impact on the quality and kind of information or healing they offer, the way they offer it, and its effect on the client. All healers can be trained to develop mediumship to a degree. All mediums can be trained to develop healing abilities to a degree, and the same with clairvoyants and intuitives. But, it is not automatic. The development of the individual is a crucial factor, and the innate talent or gifts of the individual.
An orderly process of human energetic development, which is the same as saying the orderly development of the whole person, is the goal. This supports each chakra and its function. It allows the heart to open beautifully, and brings myriad qualities into play. These include intuition – to an appropriate extent, and healing abilities too, again to the extent that is appropriate for each particular individual.
In the orderly developmental process, it is only after the heart, and all the energy centers below it, are functioning properly, that the Third Eye, the mediums tool, will open spontaneously or receive attention. When that happens, it will bring the gifts each individual needs and is best suited to. Its then that those who are really suited to be mediums blossom.
Forced development of the Third Eye, which often happens quite separately from real whole person psycho spiritual energetic development, will almost always bring problems. Though it sometimes produces mediums, and is sometimes used to do that.
So the brief answer to your question is that healers can sometimes be trained to work as mediums, and vice versa, but the truest way for all to work is to concentrate on the development of themselves as energetic beings, and inhabitants of our psycho spiritual energetic reality. When we do that, then we will all be privileged. We will be able to offer our best for our own benefit, and the benefit of our world; we will raise the vibration. And the best for each may be to work, with appropriate training, as a healer, a medium, or metaphorically, as the receptionist in the doctors office, the gardener or whatever else. From this place, we will be able to fulfill our responsibilities to the highest degree, to enjoy our blessings, parent our children, and leave a better world when we move on.
