Freezing air with arctic undertones is blanketing the country. The sky in many parts of London is illuminated by fireworks, and the Thames is flowing slowly as if ruled by the memories of the days when it froze right over. The sky is mottled as cloud banks move slowly across the beautiful, impassive moon. The morning will see a sparkling frost, even a blanket of snow perhaps, the gleaming particles repeating the lesson of this time: it is the virtue of clarity.

The cold is clear. The ice outlines all it touches in sparkling lines. So it needs to be with us mere mortals. May we see the truth clearly in the New Year, may our vision be blessed with clarity, and may we act with the benefit of the clarity that is ours, at the deepest levels.
