The cashier at my local small supermarket and I always exchange smiles and a brief chat. Interaction like that makes a difference to the day. Today’s dreary news, more scandalous behavior had us both despairing. We’re alike in having families, grown children and caring about our community. She wears a red bindi mark on her forehead, and might even wear a sari at home. “No faith, that’s the problem” she said to me, “You know, ships once sailed on faith alone- they set off with blind faith, and almost nothing else to guide them to their destinations! Just think of that”. I did think Actually they had the stars, and a little more. But- they had faith too. I do think on that : the huge difference that faith makes.
